Mayor Lurie's Statement On Board Of Supervisors Committee Vote To Advance Family Zoning Plan
Office of the MayorSAN FRANCISCO – Mayor Daniel Lurie today released the following statement after the Board of Supervisors Land Use and Transportation Committee, chaired by District 7 Supervisor Myrna Melgar, voted to advance his Family Zoning plan:
“Too many families and young people are wondering if they’ll be able to stay in the city they call home. Our Family Zoning plan will help us add housing, protect small businesses, and maintain the character of the neighborhoods that make San Francisco so special. By advancing the Family Zoning plan, the Board of Supervisors has taken a critical step to keep San Francisco in control of what gets built in our city so Sacramento can’t take over.
“For months, my team and I have worked with the supervisors and communities across the city to make sure this plan meets our state obligations in a way that works for our neighborhoods. I have held events across the city to hear directly from San Franciscans and met with a wide range of community leaders to understand their goals. I am grateful to all the residents and leaders who came to those events, shared their feedback, and helped us strengthen this plan.
“I want to thank the Board of Supervisors for their partnership, particularly Supervisor Myrna Melgar for her dedicated leadership of the Land Use and Transportation Committee and Supervisor Bilal Mahmood. I look forward to continuing our work together to pass the Family Zoning plan, stand up for San Francisco’s values, and help ensure that the next generation of San Franciscans can afford to raise their kids in our beautiful city.”
