Juvenile Probation DepartmentThe San Francisco Juvenile Probation Department seeks an accomplished juvenile justice leader and practitioner with deep operational credibility, a demonstrated commitment to positive youth development, and the ability to build trust across a complex organization and with San Francisco’s diverse justice system stakeholders
The San Francisco Juvenile Probation Department (JPD) is recruiting a new Assistant Chief Probation Officer.
JPD is the only probation department in California devoted exclusively to youth alleged or found to have committed law violations under the jurisdiction of the juvenile court. Chief Probation Officer Katy Miller has articulated a clear and compelling vision: San Francisco should reimagine how it responds to juvenile crime and delinquency—from referral through reentry—by working with community and government partners, grounding decisions in research and evidence-based practice, addressing racial disparities, and preserving both public safety and the possibility of restoration. We are seeking a seasoned professional who can support the department to turn this vision into a durable culture of excellence; to translate our strongest innovations into consistent daily practice; and to use data and evaluation to sustain and grow what works.
The nationwide search for the Assistant Chief Probation Officer is being conducted by The Byers Group. To be considered, candidates should electronically submit a resume and letter of interest to SFJUV.ACPO@byersgroupca.com. The letter should describe the candidate's interest in the role, relevant accomplishments, and the leadership attributes the candidate would bring to JPD. The first review date of consideration will be October 30, 2026. The position will remain open until filled. Complete Job Announcement and Description.
