Hello! My name is Ijlal Imran. I am a student at the University of San Francisco originally from New Jersey. At USF, I have been involved in student leadership and community engagement initiatives focused on advocacy, service, and supporting vulnerable populations.

I have volunteered with organizations including St. Anthony’s Foundation and City Hope, where I worked directly with individuals experiencing homelessness and food insecurity. Through these experiences, I heard many powerful personal stories that deepened my understanding of the challenges unhoused individuals face and strengthened my commitment to public service.

I wanted to join the Shelter Monitoring Committee because I believe every person deserves dignity, respect, and humane treatment regardless of their circumstances. Hearing stories from unhoused individuals and learning more about shelter conditions lit a fire in me to help advocate for residents in shelters and work toward improving conditions and accountability. We are all human, and everyone deserves to be treated with compassion and respect. I hope to contribute a perspective grounded in empathy, community engagement, and a commitment to ensuring shelters remain safe and respectful spaces for all residents.
