Lights On Afterschool in San Francisco
For over 15 years, afterschool programs across San Francisco have taken part in the nationwide Lights On Afterschool event. The Lightbulb Challenge helps show how important afterschool programs are to our community. Afterschool programs are valuable and in high demand. Here at DCYF, we support 71 afterschool programs in schools and community spaces. These programs give children and teens from low-income and working families a safe place to learn, explore, and have fun. They help students build social and emotional skills, follow their interests, and connect what they learn after school to what they learn during the school day. DCYF-funded programs serve more than 16,000 children and teens. This highlights how much our community needs afterschool programs and why we need to continue creating more opportunities for young people.Lightblub challenge: our grantees and departments
