International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 6 – Apprenticeship Application Announcement

Please see below for some of the information on the application period and requirements. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible when it opens as they will only be accepting the first 1,000 application for testing.

Overiew

The City and County of San Francisco’s Department of Human Resources, ApprenticeshipSF team is excited to share an upcoming opportunity on behalf of our labor partners, The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 6 and the SF Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), to apply for the SF Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee’s 2026 Electrical Apprenticeship Program.

Please note:

  • This is an announcement for application for the Electrician Apprenticeship (Inside Wireman), NOT a job announcement.

When

The application for examination for the Electrician Apprenticeship (Inside Wireman) will be open on the following days in 2026.

  • May 18-22, 2026
  • May 25-29, 2026

Online ONLY

  • Only individuals who submit their application online on these days, with all the required documents and a completed application will be considered. The application link will be found on the website: https://www.sfelectricaltraining.org
  • Please note that only the first 1000 applications will be accepted. After the first 1000 applications are submitted the application process will be closed and no other applications will be processed.

Union Required Documents

Required documents you must have at the time of application:

  1. Photo Identification, such as a valid driver’s license or D.M.V. Identification Card.
  2. Proof of completion of school, such as a High School diploma or the equivalent (i.e.: GED). In lieu of a high school diploma or its equivalent, show proof of a two-year Associate Degree or Higher.
  3. Proof of Algebra, Calculus or Trigonometry. Provide evidence of successful completion of Algebra, Calculus, or Trigonometry with a grade of a (C) or higher. One full year (2 semesters) of high school or one semester post high school (e.g., Adult Ed, Community College, etc.) or provide evidence of having passed the online learning Tech Math course. Information about the Tech Math course is available at www.skillsprep.org.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • A GED & all diplomas are not proof of the math requirement.
  • If documentation does not show “Algebra”, “Calculus” or “Trigonometry”, a syllabus course description must be provided to prove the math taken is in fact “Algebra”, “Calculus” or “Trigonometry”.
  • THE BURDEN OF PROOF IS THE APPLICANT’S RESPONSIBILITY
  • Non-English Documents must be translated and notarized with the embossed notary seal.

Union Application Requirements

Applicants must be at least 17 years of age on the date of filing an application, and 18 or older to be indentured. All applicants must apply online with all 3 required documents during the open application dates listed above. Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen or meet INS requirements.
