About us

The Civil Rights Division at the Human Rights Commission (HRC) investigates and mediates complaints about discrimination in employment, housing and access to business establishments or other public places. 

Our team acts in a neutral role to:

  • Investigate and mediate discrimination complaints in housing, employment, and access to businesses or other public places
  • Investigate and mediate complaints of noncompliance with the Sanctuary City Ordinance and the housing provisions of the Fair Chance Ordinance
  • Engage stakeholders to resolve community disputes and issues involving equity and discrimination
  • Provide information and referrals to individuals, community groups, businesses, and government agencies related to human rights and social justice
