HSH Success Stories: Coordinated Entry

Coordinated Entry is the homeless response system’s "front door" to services—matching people with housing and support that fits their unique needs. These stories show how thoughtful coordination can transform lives and help people find the right path forward.

A New Chapter for Barry: From Crisis to Stability

For Barry*, a San Francisco native, the journey to housing was filled with setbacks. After a painful divorce, he found himself without a permanent place to live—relying on shelters, sleeping on friends’ couches, and sometimes staying on the street. When a stroke left him with limited mobility and speech, navigating daily life became even harder.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Barry was placed in a Shelter-in-Place (SIP) hotel operated by Episcopal Community Services, where he finally had space to heal. With support from Adult Coordinated Entry, he was connected to permanent supportive housing.

Now, Barry has a place of his own—a foundation from which he can rebuild. “I’m ready to move forward and live my life,” he said with a smile.
