SFUSD is now discussing major changes to the district’s school assignment system, as well as the possibility of revisiting school closures and mergers in the future. These are not abstract policy debates. They affect where our children go to school, how much certainty families have, whether students can attend a school close to home, and whether every neighborhood has access to strong, stable, high-quality public schools.
For too long, San Francisco’s school assignment system has been confusing and stressful for families. We need a system that is fair, transparent, and easier to understand — one that gives families more predictability, better access to neighborhood schools, and a clearer process from start to finish.
We also need to make sure that any conversation about school closures, mergers, or district restructuring is handled with honesty, transparency, and real community engagement. Families deserve to be heard early, clearly, and respectfully — not after decisions already feel predetermined.
This town hall is an opportunity for District 4 families, students, educators, and neighbors to ask questions, share concerns, and help shape the conversation about the future of SFUSD.
Space may be limited, so please RSVP in advance to help ensure entry.
I hope to see you there.
