The Fair Chance Ordinance limits when and how criminal history can be used or considered in affordable housing or employment in San Francisco. On August 10, 2026, San Francisco’s recent amendments to the Fair Chance Ordinance became in effect. These new protections are significantly more expansive than the California Fair Chance Act, as they extend affordable housing and employment protection to individuals who have faced criminal charges in other states related to abortion, miscarriage, gender affirming care, or drag performance. Join this program to learn the basics of a Fair Chance Ordinance claim/violation in San Francisco, how to follow the new requirements, and how these protections differ from state law.
