The program will provide a brief history of important court decisions in baseball history and the strikes/lockouts that have plagued the industry since 1972. The stage will be set for the upcoming Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiations between the Major League Baseball owners and the Major League Baseball Players Association.
Ron Gieseke is a senior attorney with 30+ years of corporate in-house legal experience. He retired in 2016 from active practice as Director (Corporate) and Assistant General Counsel of Ameren Corporation in St. Louis.
He received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics at Northwestern University (1980) and J.D. at the Washington University School of Law (1983). He is a member of the Illinois and Missouri Bars.
Post retirement, Ron began teaching in 2017 at the Chicago-Kent College of Law where he now serves as Senior Lecturer. In addition, Ron currently is an adjunct professor at the University of Illinois (Chicago) School of Law, an arbitrator for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and the Better Business Bureau, and a mediator for the Center for Conflict Resolution in Chicago.
For the past eight years Ron is the author of a blog, Baseball Bench Coach (www.baseballbenchcoach.com), which provides baseball insight every Monday morning during the baseball season. A book of the same name was published in 2025. He is a frequent speaker on baseball topics. Ron has also served as a tour guide at Wrigley Field for the past nine seasons.
