BART is moving forward with early planning to redesign the public plazas and entrances at the 16th Street Mission Station. This is not a full station rebuild, but a phased effort focused on reimagining the spaces around the station to improve safety, accessibility, while better integrating the station into the surrounding Mission District.
Over the past year, BART has been gathering community input through open houses and workshops, and is using that feedback to develop early concept designs. The planning phase is expected to run through mid-2026, with more public engagement planned before any final design. Current ideas center on making the plazas more welcoming and usable, improving lighting and sightlines, and enhancing pedestrian flow between the street and station entrances.
