PROFILE
Emily Yang
she/her
Emily Yang is a senior at Balboa High School serving her second term on the San Francisco Youth Commission. Her advocacy started with pre-registering youth ages 16+ to vote as an SF Elections Ambassador. By engaging with her community, she learned about pertinent youth issues, the importance of outreach to youth, and how civics can be applied beyond the classroom. This passion has led her to co-found the San Francisco Regional Chapter: Voters Of Tomorrow, where she educates youth about politics.
Her primary passions are youth civic engagement, education, and environmental justice. As a lifelong public school student, Emily is especially passionate about improving the education system and uses her bilingualism to tutor ESL students. In climate, she is a co-chair of the Bay Area Youth Climate Summit – a youth-led, climate justice non-profit organization – where she leads climate workshops, summits, and festivals with her team. On the Youth Commission, Emily strives to advocate for food insecurity, climate change, youth mental health, and language access.
Looking ahead, Emily aspires to study public policy and government in college. In her free time, she loves spending time with family and exploring the city (especially trying new cuisines)!
