About

As per the 2025-2026 Youth Commission Bylaws (PDF), the Housing, Recreation, and Transit Committee is a standing issue-based committee of five to seven Youth Commissioners.

The Committee is responsible for:

(a) Housing issues such as youth/TAY homelessness, rent control, tenant protections, SROs, zoning, and land use;
(b) Recreation issues such as equitable access to parks citywide, and improving both public parks and community spaces;
(c) Transportation issues such as protecting the Free Muni for All Youth program, expanding free transit, improving bike lanes (especially near schools and libraries), improving transit accessibility/routes/frequency, expanding school trippers citywide, and vision zero;
(d) Climate issues such as addressing sea level rise, implementing green appliances in new buildings, and expanding EV charging stations citywide
