Cultural Ambassador Program

The San Francisco Arts Commission (SFAC) is seeking Cultural Ambassadors to help promote selected SFAC 2026-2027 grant opportunities (category/ies to be confirmed). Cultural Ambassadors will help increase awareness of and attendance at SFAC’s 2026 Annual Convening and grant information sessions, and will encourage prospective applicants to submit applications to relevant SFAC grant categories in Fall 2026. This is a paid opportunity to be part of SFAC's grant-making process.

1. Attend the Cultural Ambassador Program Information Webinar

The webinar will take place over Zoom on Monday, June 15, 2026, at 12pm Pacific Time.

2. Apply to be a FY26-27 Cultural Ambassador

Eligibility Restrictions

  • Cannot promote any SFAC FY27 grant categories they plan to apply for. This includes individual artist grants and being an employee of an arts organization planning to apply for a FY27 organization grant.
  • Cannot be current/former City & County of San Francisco employees, including SFUSD and City College.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.

Availability Requirements

Ambassador must:

  • Be available August 1–December 31, 2026, including:
  • Virtual Orientation: TBD weekday in August 2026.
  • In-person Meetup: TBD weekend afternoon in August 2026 (likely Saturday, August 22 or Sunday, August 23, 2026)
  • Individual monthly coaching session/meeting with SFAC staff: weekdays, 9 AM–5 PM PST
  • Adapt to varying monthly hour commitments: For example, the activities in December 2026 will primarily focus on program evaluation and completing any final administrative requirements and will probably require less hours than August - November 2026.

SFAC Cultural Ambassador Program (August-December 2026)

Program Overview

Cultural Ambassadors will connect with potential applicants and promote SFAC's grant programs through:

  • Emails, phone calls, social media posts, and in-person outreach at community programs/events in San Francisco.
  • Approximately 85 hours of outreach activities from August 1–December 31, 2026, adjusted monthly based on outreach plans.

Compensation

  • Honorarium: $3,145 (~$37/hour), upon program completion.

  • Application Deadline: Wednesday, July 15, 2026, by 5 PM PST.
  • Virtual Orientation: TBD weekday in August 2026

  • SFAC 2026 Annual Convening: TBD weekday evening in September 2026

Outreach Methods and Strategies

Selected Cultural Ambassadors will serve as bridge builders between SFAC and San Francisco’s arts and culture community, including San Francisco-based artists and arts organizations.

Cultural Ambassadors will conduct grants and community outreach at SFAC’s Annual Convening (2026 Annual Convening date TBD) and via these activities:

  • In-person/hybrid at in-person community programs and events in San Francisco and some online promotion. This may also include, for example, outreach at selected SFAC in-person/hybrid programs and events.
  • Online/virtual via social media, email, and other online channels. This may include, for example: co-hosting (with SFAC staff) at least 1 grants-focused virtual conversation. This will also include, for example, promoting SFAC's grant opportunities to prospective San Francisco-based artists and arts organizations by posting 1 post per week on the Cultural Ambassador’s social media account(s).

Desired Qualifications

We’re looking for ambassadors who:

  • Are passionate about San Francisco arts and culture.
  • Are rooted in historically underserved communities, including those communities highlighted in the Cultural Equity Ordinance (see Administrative Code Section 68.5).
  • Have social media skills or enjoy connecting in-person with community networks in San Francisco.
  • Are outgoing and positive.
  • Can complete the required City Supplier registration process (~3–4 hours, with staff support). 

Ambassador Responsibilities

  • Promote SFAC grants through in-person and online outreach and at programs and events.
  • Serve as liaisons between SFAC and their communities.
  • Track activities using SFAC-provided tools.
  • Provide feedback and recommend improvements.
