Commission Streamlining Process Timeline
The Commission Streamlining Task Force works to improve the effectiveness of the City's boards and commissions. It will disband by January 31, 2027.

Voters pass Proposition E
Proposition E created a Commission Streamlining Task Force to recommend ways to change, remove, or combine the City’s 150+ boards and commissions (or "public bodies").
Task Force members were chosen by the Mayor, Board of Supervisors, City Administrator, City Attorney, and Controller.
Task Force meets and develops recommendations
The Task Force holds public meetings to discuss and make preliminary decisions about the City's public bodies.
- January–August: Identify active and inactive bodies; develop general rules and templates.
- September–November: Make initial decisions about each public body.
- November–December: Review past decisions, revisit deferred decisions, and check for consistency.
Final report
The Task Force prepares and sends a final report with its recommendations for the Mayor and Board of Supervisors by February 1, 2026.
Draft legislation
The City Attorney drafts legislation reflecting the Task Force's final recommendations to be sent to the Board of Supervisors by March 1, 2026.
The Task Force's proposed legislation will include changes to the City's Administrative Code.
Board of Supervisors hearing
The Board of Supervisors holds a hearing on the drafted legislation by April 1, 2026.
Ordinance takes effect
The Task Force's proposed legislation takes effect within 90 days, unless 8 members of the Board of Supervisors reject it during that time.
Charter amendment
The Board of Supervisors decides whether to put a Charter amendment on the November ballot by July 2026.
Voter approval of possible Charter amendment
Any changes to the Charter language about public bodies would appear on the ballot.
Task Force disbands
The Commission Streamlining Task Force completes its work and dissolves by January 31, 2027.
