Applied Research, Community Health Epidemiology, and Surveillance (ARCHES)

Population Health

ARCHES serves as the surveillance and epidemiologic backbone of the Population Health Division (PHD) of the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH).

The ARCHES Branch routinely analyzes reports of diseases and lab tests among San Francisco residents. ARCHES works with laboratories and providers to ensure data completeness. Timely and accurate data help SFDPH to identify citywide and population-level changes in health and illness. The Branch partners across SFDPH to address disease trends and possible outbreaks. ARCHES provides evidence for both local and national decision-making. ARCHES contributes to quality improvement of programs and services at SFDPH and across San Francisco.
