PHEPR's Mission
PHEPR works with partners to be prepared to protect health in disasters. We use and promote methods, that have been proven to work, to protect all people in San Francisco from public health emergencies.Sections of PHEPR
Healthcare Preparedness
- PHEPR supports healthcare facilities to get their buildings, staff, and patients ready for emergencies. Our Healthcare Coalition outreach program shares helpful information about how they can prepare for emergencies and disasters.
- PHEPR works with hospitals and other important healthcare partners to make emergency plans, teach skills, and run practice drills together. This helps everyone learn how to work together and respond quickly when something serious happens.
- PHEPR shares important health and emergency alerts and warnings with healthcare organizations. This helps them stay aware of public health concerns and gives them information on how to keep people safe and healthy during emergencies.
Public Preparedness
- PHEPR prepares people and communities—especially those most at risk—to demonstrate resilience during a public health emergency.
- PHEPR provides technical assistance to community and faith-based organizations to help them support the people and communities they serve before, during, and after public health emergencies.
- PHEPR prioritizes regular, timely, and culturally relevant public health emergency communications to vulnerable populations through trusted sources. This helps build trust and preparedness before, during, and after public health incidents.
Agency Preparedness
- PHEPR works with other parts of the City & County during emergencies, disasters, and large events. Working together makes our response to emergencies more organized and helpful.
- PHEPR leads the planning for all kinds of emergencies for the Department of Public Health. These plans also help the Department keep doing everyday work, even during a disaster.
- PHEPR leads trainings to help prepare for disasters. We also test our plans with partners.
Data and Intelligence
- PHEPR collects data to stay aware of what is happening in real time. Data are also used to look for patterns in emergency responses. We use both of these to help City leaders make decisions.
- PHEPR sets goals and tracks results for its teams. This information is used to make sure PHEPR's work is always improving.
- PHEPR represents the Department of Public Health on citywide climate and health work. PHEPR makes sure health impacts of climate hazards are included in City plans.
Operations and Logistics
- PHEPR coordinates and maintains public health emergency response infrastructure. This includes emergency communications, locations, equipment and supplies.
- PHEPR works with State and Federal partners to manage healthcare professional volunteers during disasters.
- PHEPR works to share scarce medical resources with local and regional healthcare systems during disasters.
