6/29 Reroofing, Sign and Awning Permits Move to the PermitSF portal

June 26, 2026

Dear Customers,

This week, we've been helping applicants use the PermitSF portal for reroofing, sign and awning permits, and it’s been great to see the rollout get off to a smooth start.

Starting Monday, June 29, if you’re applying for a sign, awning or reroofing permit (no plans), you’ll now apply online through the PermitSF portal instead of coming in person to the Permit Center. All you need to do is register an account and start your application.

Reroofing projects that require plans, such as framing or sheathing work, will continue to apply Over-the-Counter in person at the Permit Center.

If you’re a licensed contractor, we encourage you to validate your contractor’s license in advance so you don’t have to complete that process each time you apply. Taking care of it now will save you time on your future permit applications.

Once your permit is approved, you can download your permit directly from the portal, and you’ll also be able to schedule inspections for these permit types online.

For more information about these upcoming changes and what to expect, visit our webpage. For questions, you can contact us at PermitSF@sfgov.org or visit the Permit Center. We’re here to help!

Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership.
