What to do
Real property or personal property exemptions or exclusions come in many forms. One thing they all have in common is they either reduce or eliminate your obligation to pay taxes.
Exemptions
- Homeowners’ Exemption
- If you own and occupy your home as your principal place of residence, you may be eligible for an exemption of up to $7,000 off the property’s assessed value. This means you can save approximately $80 on property tax annually.
- Veterans’ Property Tax Exemption
- Any property owned by and is the principal place of residence of a disabled veteran is eligible for exemption from part or full value of the property. Veterans' organizations may also be eligible for property tax exemption.
- Church Exemption
- Churches exclusively conducting religious worship are eligible for an exemption on buildings, land on which the church is situated including parking lots and equipment, whether owned or leased, as of lien date (January 1st).
- Nonprofit Exemption
- The welfare exemption is only available for real and personal property owned and used exclusively by non-profit organizations formed for specific purposes:
- religious
- scientific
- hospital
- charitable

- Vessel Exemption
- If you own a Commercial Fishing Boat, you may be eligible for a reduced assessment.
