Help San Francisco solve our homelessness crisis

San Francisco’s Homelessness Response System (HRS) is powered by a network of nonprofit partners who deliver essential housing, shelter, outreach, behavioral health, and family support services every day. These organizations work directly with San Francisco residents experiencing homelessness, providing pathways to housing, stability, and long-term wellbeing. On this page, you’ll find ways to volunteer, donate, or get involved with the community-based partners who make this work possible.

Giving Tuesday: Support local organizations making a difference in San Francisco’s homelessness response.

About San Francisco’s Homelessness Response System

The HRS is a coordinated network of City departments and nonprofit organizations that provide housing, shelter, outreach, prevention, and supportive services.

These nonprofit partners are on the front lines delivering critical services, supporting thousands of San Franciscans each year, and helping make homelessness rare, brief, and one-time.

When you give or volunteer with these organizations, you help expand shelter capacity, strengthen housing programs, support youth and families, and ensure people have access to meals, outreach, and care. Community support empowers our HRS partners to reach more people and deliver more services.

These community-based organizations are essential partners in delivering San Francisco’s homelessness response. Their work, from street outreach to supportive housing, is a cornerstone of the City’s ongoing efforts to reduce homelessness and strengthen pathways to housing.

Mayor’s Fund for the Homeless

The Mayor’s Fund for the Homeless (MFH) uses private donations to provide food, shelter, housing and other services to people at-risk of or experiencing homelessness.

  • These funds help improve outcomes for individuals in all forms of HSH sponsored housing including shelters, transitional and supportive housing. These funds may also be used to help support clients who are exiting the Navigation Center.
  • The MFH enables HSH to more actively fundraise and to engage with community members who are interested in supporting our efforts.
