Office of the MayorWhat to do
Spring 2026 Budget Cycle
The City must balance a nearly billion-dollar budget deficit for the next two fiscal years, requiring the Mayor to make tough decisions about how to use the City’s limited funding. To inform those decisions, the Mayor’s Office held a fall 2025 community budget workshop series with stakeholders to better understand community priorities. The priorities identified by community stakeholders centered around the following themes:
- Preserve core services (examples from community stakeholders: street cleaning, public transit, health services)
- Protect vulnerable communities from the impacts of federal policy changes on the social safety net (ex: general & preventative health services, food security, immigration)
- Increase affordability (ex: housing, employment opportunities, childcare)
- Make neighborhoods safe for everyone by engaging the community and addressing root causes
Community identified priorities have key ties with the Mayor’s Office priorities for the City and his commitment to delivering core government services efficiently. These include:
- Maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming streets and public spaces
- Ensuring positive long-term health outcomes for our vulnerable communities
- Making San Francisco more affordable and livable for families
