Former Sheriff's Inspector General Terry Wiley
San Francisco’s inaugural Sheriff's Inspector General, Terry Wiley, stepped down on January 10, 2025, and was sworn in as an Alameda County Superior Court judge on January 15, 2025. Review the Sheriff's Inspector General’s 2024 Summary Report to learn more about his work during his tenure. The Sheriff’s Department Oversight Board (SDOB) is determining the next steps for the permanent appointment. In the interim, the Department of Police Accountability (DPA) will continue to investigate complaints about sheriff deputies under the Second Amended Agreement Between the SFSO and the DPA. Established by a 2020 voter mandate to ensure independent accountability, the Office of Sheriff’s Inspector General (OSIG) delivers dedicated oversight of the San Francisco Sheriff's Office. When staffed, the OSIG will absorb responsibilities from the Department of Police Accountability (DPA) to investigate complaints and misconduct allegations involving department staff.
