Response times for 911 calls

Time it takes for a response vehicle to arrive at the scene of an incident after it is sent.

Basic Life Support vehicle response

San Francisco has three medical emergency providers:

  • San Francisco Fire Department
  • American Medical Response
  • King American

Basic Life Support (BLS) responders give life-saving care such as CPR. The Emergency Medical Services Agency (EMSA) has a policy goal that a BLS vehicle arrive on scene within four and a half minutes of dispatch 90% of the time. The dashboard below shows the percent of BLS responses that achieved the policy goal. The orange line must be at or above the blue goal line to meet the goal.

The data is collected by the Department of Emergency Management (DEM) and is published by the San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD). Data may update as more information becomes available. To make sure we are showing high quality data, several categories are excluded:

  • Non-medical responses
  • Responses without a time stamp
  • Negative response times
  • Responses where the time from vehicle arrival to patient transport is less than 1 minute
  • Responses where the response time is greater than 120 minutes

Ambulance Code 3 vehicle response

Code 3 calls are 911 calls that are life-threatening. The policy goal states that an ambulance arrive on scene within ten minutes of dispatch 90 percent of the time. The dashboard below shows the percent of code 3 calls that achieved this goal. The orange line must be at or above the blue goal line to meet the goal.
