Apply for nonprofit exemption
Requirements for nonprofits and charitable organizations
What to do
The nonprofit exemption is jointly administered by the Board of Equalization (BOE) and our office. BOE determines whether the organization is eligible to receive the exemption and our office determines whether the use of the property is eligible for the exemption.
Eligibility
- Real and personal property owned and used exclusively by nonprofit organizations formed for religious, scientific, hospital or charitable purposes.
Apply
- Apply for and secure a BOE issued Organization Clearance Certificate. Note: Property owned by a limited partnership must also obtain a Supplemental Clearance Certificate from the BOE.
- Download the form(s) found below that are applicable to your organization.
- Submit your completed exemption form along with your BOE Organization Clearance Certificate to our office.
Deadline
The annual filing deadline is February 15.
Property taxes should be paid in full while your application is pending. A refund will be disbursed by the Treasurer and Tax Collector after the process is complete.
